Title: Glaxo SmithKline Installs Krauss Maffei Peeler

SEDIMENTATION & CENTRIFUGATION NEWSLETTER July 2002 No. 271 GlaxoSmithKline Installs Krauss Maffei Peeler GlaxoSmithKline has installed a Krauss Maffei horizontal peeler centrifuge as part of its process line expansion at its manufacturing and supply site in Montrose, Scotland. According to Krauss Maffei, GlaxoSmithKline chose the HZ 88 Ph centrifuge after reviewing a number of horizontal and vertical machines for multi-purpose use on a new set of process streams at the site. GlaxoSmithKline was looking for a centrifuge that would suit general purpose handling and complied with good manufacturing practice (GMP). It was also important that the system could enable the company to carry out production turnaround quickly and provide good quality filtration and washing of pharmaceutical intermediates and products. The process area of the HZ 88 Ph centrifuge is designed without dead space to minimize the probability of solids buildup and allow optimum clean-in-place (CIP) efficiency. According to Krauss Maffei, this makes the centrifuge particularly suitable for pharmaceutical batch production or any application where cleaning integrity is of particular importance. Multi-purpose applications are also simplified by the HZ 800's quick-mounting and self-tightening rings, which Krauss Maffei says allows the assembly and removal of the filter cloth in a matter of minutes. The modular design of the centrifuge also makes it easy to fit into most cleanroom applications.
