The Dept. of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its quarterly coal report for 2nd quarter 2012, highlighting a dramatic shift in U.S. coal production, consumption, and export patterns. Coal consumption was down 16.3 percent from the same quarter a year ago (2Q2011). However, coal exports were up 39.1 percent over the second quarter of 2011.
