Title: EIA Report Shows U.S. Coal Consumption Down 16 Percent, Exports Up 39 Percent

The Dept. of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its quarterly coal report for 2nd quarter 2012, highlighting a dramatic shift in U.S. coal production, consumption, and export patterns. Coal consumption was down 16.3 percent from the same quarter a year ago (2Q2011). However, coal exports were up 39.1 percent over the second quarter of 2011. As a result of the dramatic increase in coal exports, net coal production was down just 9.4 percent from a year ago.
