Title: China Institute of Geo-Environment Monitoring Coordinates Provincial and Municipal Monitoring

China Institute of Geo-Environment Monitoring (CIGEM) is an institute directly under the Ministry of Land and Resources, which has professional collaborative relations with provincial bureaus of land and resources and provides vocational guidance, coordinative and technical services for provincial (municipal, autonomous regional) level geo-environment monitoring stations. Major tasks: 1．To participate in the drawing up geo-environmental surrey/evaluation and monitoring work programs and plans, and to raise counter measures and suggestion for geo-hazards prevention/control and geo-environmental protection; 2．To undertake survey, evaluation, monitoring, integrated study and early warning /prediction of geo-hazard; 3．To organize the implementation of nationwide groundwater environment monitoring and to carry out survey, evaluation and integrated study of groundwater resources and environment; 4．To conduct hygrogeologic, engineering geologic and environment geologic survey /evaluation and integrated study, and to participate in the formulating norms and technical standards of hydrogeology, engineering geologic and environment geologic work and geo-environment monitoring work; 5．To assume the responsibilities for the construction and management of national geo-environment monitoring network and geo-environment information system, and to undertake the task of receiving, gathering, analyzing, processing and integrated studying the national geo-environmental survey, evaluation and monitoring data and materials so as to provide service for government decision-making department, society and public ; 6．To carry out domestic and overseas science/technology exchanges and cooperation in geo-environmental survey, evaluation and monitoring, as well as extension and application of new techniques and method; 7．To practise vocational guidance, coordination and technical services for provincial geo-environmental monitoring work; 8．To undertake other work entrusted by the Ministry of Land and resources.
