Title: Shenzhen River Contaminated Sediment Remediation Strategy Joint Study, China

The Shenzhen River, 33 kilometers in length and covering a catchment area of about 300 square kilometers, serves as the natural border between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, one of the most developed regions of China. It has been suffering from deteriorating water and sediment quality due to the increasing pollution loading into it and its tributaries resultant from the fast growing city of Shenzhen. This consultancy project (HK$ 6million), jointly proposed by HKSAR and Shenzhen Municipal Government, is aimed at formulating the long-term remediation strategies for Shenzhen River by devising and applying effective and practical approaches and technologies to clean up the large volume of polluted sediment. This project, led by AECOM under cooperation with the mainland's prestigious Tsinghua University, will be conducted in two stages and expected to complete in 2012. AECOM professionals will provide expertise in sediment contamination survey, remediation technology tests, environmental review and formulation of remediation strategies.
