In 1966, the company bought their first ready mix operation, Central Mix, in Rapid City. Six years later, in 1972, Rapid City suffered a devastating flood. The rebuilding efforts after the flood provided a steady need for both concrete and rock products. The ready mix operation continued to grow with acquisitions of plants around the Black Hills in western South Dakota and one plant in eastern South Dakota. In 1993, Pete Lien & Sons, made their latest ready mix expansion into southern Colorado.
