The International Dairy Federation and its IDF Italian National Committee are very pleased to announce the IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 to be held under the theme of “Sustainable Food Security” in Parma, Italy, from 15 to 19 October 2011, with the technical cooperation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The annual IDF topical meeting for the world dairy industry returns to Italy after 55 years. The IDF World Dairy Summit represents the unique opportunity to meet and debate with top level representatives of the world dairy sector of various stakeholder groups including dairy farmers, dairy suppliers, processing industry, governments, international, regional and national partner organizations and academia. The Summit program will comprise several conferences to present and debate latest progress, results, up-coming solutions and trends with regard to dairy policies and economics, nutrition and health, animal feeding, animal health and welfare, milk production and farm management, environment, dairy science and technology, food safety and many other topical fields of interest. The Summit highlight will be the World Dairy Leaders Forum as the unique opportunity for dairy leaders to meet and discuss the future of the industry and the dairy chain in front of a distinguished audience of several hundred participants who are invited to contribute to this discussion. Milk and dairy products, with their high nutritional value, should be basic foods in the diet of every population. Ensuring dairy food security – and doing it in a sustainable way – is a challenge for the dairy sector. This means research for a better farm and diseases management, animal feeding , sustainable application of science and technology to milk and dairy production. These topics together with suitable dairy policies and economics, an intrinsic food safety and respect for environment contribute to improve the dairy sector and its products. The IDF World Dairy Summit 2011 will be an important gathering for all dairy experts from the industry, farms, research institutes and governmental authorities to explore and discuss challenges and opportunities related to this topics.
