It’s amazing how quickly the world can change in just a few short months. Like Christopher Columbus and others who proved the world was not flat, COVID-19 has shown the world is not that large, either. In Jules Verne’s epic novel “Around the World in 80 Days,” Phileas Fogg’s ultimate goal was simply to circumnavigate the world. Jackie Chan had a challenging (and comical) time orbiting the planet in the 2004 film version of the novel. Conversely, COVID-19 had no trouble encompassing the Earth in an 80-day timeframe. COVID-19 has had an immediate, life-changing impact on the world. The amount of lives lost, financial assets destroyed, and healthcare systems strained is alarming.
