Griffin ( www.griffinenviro.com ) has a patent pending for a high temperature (1000°F) ceramic filter. David Young and Neil DenBleyker told us that several units have been sold; the first unit began operating in January 2000. The pulse jet unit is 11 feet in diameter and holds 154 ceramic candles, each 3 meters long. The Cerafil® ceramic filter elements, manufactured by Madison Filters (formerly Scapa), are six inches in diameter. The elements can operate at temperatures in the range of 500°F (260°C) up to 1650°F (900°C). Cerafil elements claim qualities of high efficiency, acid and alkali resistance (except HF), thermal shock resistance, and fire and spark resistance.

The Griffin high temperature collector incorporates cylindrical housings for uniform heat expansion; 304 or 316 SS walls for thermal stress and corrosion resistance; heat shields and cooling fins which protect the jet pulse cleaning mechanism, and side plates used radially on each support leg to allow the unit to grow.
