Factors Determining the Precipitator and Fabric Filter Markets

The markets for fabric filters and precipitators are dependent on a number of factors including:

  1. How will Chinese and U.S. utilities meet the new particulate standards?   Only 10 percent of U.S. plants and 1 percent of Chinese power plants use fabric filters.  The new particulate regulations in both countries may require switching to fabric filters. Alternatively, if precipitator performance can be improved, then upgrades could be a route.   The McIlvaine market reports and Utility Tracking System continually address these questions.

  1. Will high temperature ceramic media change the industrial landscape?  The removal of particulate, NOx and SO2 with ceramic candles could be the answer for many industrial facilities around the world.  McIlvaine has been conducting webinars on this subject with speakers from Tri Mer and the Filtration Group.
  2. How will the developing world address particulate emissions from dryers, kilns, and furnaces?  Historically, scrubbers were the low cost removal choice for all applications. Electrostatic precipitators are more efficient and have been the primary option for cement kilns and certain furnaces.  However, fabric filters are taking away market share in cement, iron and steel and other industries.
