Market for Air Filters to Reach $7 Billion By 2015
The market for filters to purify air in industrial commercial and residential heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems will exceed $7 billion in 2015, and nearly reach this peak in 2014. The biggest growth will be in the medium and high efficiency categories. This is the conclusion reached by the McIlvaine Company in Air Filtration & Purification World Market. These represent the revenues of the filter element, cartridge and bag suppliers. This group is dealing directly with end users for replacement filters, but is also supplying the original equipment manufacturers who install the systems.
In terms of new system sales, the chain starts with the system supplier who has one hundred percent of the revenue but is purchasing components, some of which are filters.

The above chart shows the expenditures for filters and components as a percentage of the original HVAC system sale. Companies such as Nederman are participating in the total system sales, but also in the sale of replacement filters. Donaldson sells complete gas intake filter systems.
The system suppliers have substantial revenues at the time of the original installation. However, over time, the sales of the replacement filters exceed the initial system revenues. The system supplier revenues include the cost of purchased filters, so the revenues are not cumulative. Initial revenues are therefore one hundred percent.
As can be seen from the chart, there are significant expenditures for media, adhesives and supports. So the 2014 market for these products is $2.3 billion.
