ABSTRACTMeasurement and Control Of Mercury Emissions

Mercury transients in cement kilns affect the emissions of mercury and complicate both measurement of mercury and control.  Characteristics of the transients are presented, using both data and modeling of kiln operation.  The implications for measurement and control are discussed, particularly the impact of the Raw Mill on Hg emissions and speciation.  Available data on the effectiveness of air pollution control devices for removing Hg in cement kilns is presented along with thoughts on measurement and control of Hg.
