Gasification Is a Big Scrubber Market
The conversion of coal to pipeline gas and to petrochemicals is a huge new
market for scrubbers. We believe a two stage scrubber similar to the
process used in some German incinerators will be a real winner. The first stage
captures HCl and makes usable hydrochloric acid. The second stage
captures the H2S. The acid from the first stage is used to
leach alumina and gallium from the coal. The value of these
byproducts will be very significant. All the details appear in
Scrubber/Absorber World Markets.
Bob McIlvaine can answer questions about
the technology. In 1970, his former
company installed one of the first HCl pre-scrubbers on a commercial coal-fired
power plant.
